Believe the hype, AI app builders like Lovable and Rork ARE as good as they suggest!
Yes, there is a “but” coming….
…BUT they’re only as good as the team using them. Vibe coding was absolutely over-hyped and lead to a lot of attempts from business owners, managers and general non-techies to build out applications. In a few simpler instances they could produce what could be best described as a proof-of-concept, but more often than not, they would end up tied in knots trying to get the AI agent to build what they asked, going round in circles, breaking things that worked before, and generally having a bad, frustrating time of it.
We’ve had more than a few clients come to us, hands in the air (sometimes literally) asking if we could do what they couldn’t. What’s even worse is that there has been an absolute snowball of small “AI start-ups” thinking they can now build scalable, robust MVPs with only a few people and some fancy words thrown into a prompt.
They can’t, and businesses are paying the price.
So, here’s the thing, these tools are genuinely fantastic and as someone who’s been passionate about tech ever since the Atari VCS landed under my neighbour’s wood panelled TV, I’m still amazed with what they’re producing…. in the right hands.
At One Beyond, we’ve been building software for decades now, and tools have come along to make our lives easier, until the next new tool, and the next etc etc. With Lovable, we may be “vibe coding” to get you a fantastic looking and functioning MVP (or POC for your stakeholders or investors) but we’re doing it with years of UX and Product experience to make sure the prompts are good, also years of React experience on the front end to tweak the code directly before moving onto the next bit of vibing.
It is so important to have coding standards and tried and tested templates. Having these in place allow us to build more features than ever before, really bringing business applications to life. We’re setting up these tools with OUR coding standards, OUR templates and OUR backend, infrastructure, and security know-how so that once the MVP is complete, you know that your next product iteration is built to last.
So yes, they’re great, and they allow us to build more features for you, more quickly than ever before….when in the right hands.
