Tante Marie Culinary Academy is a long-established independent cookery school with an international reputation for professional culinary education. Its Diploma graduates have built careers and food businesses around the world, working in settings ranging from leading restaurants to private yachts and ski resorts. The academy’s comprehensive recipe collection remains a valuable resource long after qualification, helping graduates develop menus and apply the skills they learned throughout their training.

The Challenge

Tante Marie’s graduates traditionally left the academy with a 650-page recipe folder, providing a useful reference but proving cumbersome as their careers took them overseas. The academy wanted to make this collection and subsequent updates accessible through a mobile app, extending its support beyond graduation. Recipes needed to remain available without an internet connection, while the academy also wanted to retain control of its proprietary content. Strong interest from former students confirmed demand for a convenient digital alternative that they would be willing to pay for.

Our Solution

Building on the operations management system previously developed for Tante Marie, One Beyond created a mobile recipe app for iOS and Android using Xamarin.Forms. We enabled students and graduates to download recipes for offline use, making the collection accessible wherever their work took them. Distributed through the App Store and Google Play on an annual subscription basis, the app launched in December 2017. It extended the value of the academy’s existing digital investment and established a new way to stay connected with graduates throughout their careers.
