About TES Global

TES Global is a digital education company providing services that support teaching and recruitment. Alongside its platform for sharing lessons and curriculum-based resources, TES operates a teacher recruitment service connecting schools with prospective staff. TES Jobs is its flagship commercial product and, at the time of this project, carried around 90% of UK teaching vacancies, making it an important channel for schools advertising roles and teachers exploring career opportunities.

The Challenge

Despite its prominent market position, TES Jobs relied on an application stack that had been in place for fourteen years. Limited investment in the technology had allowed smaller competitors with more innovative platforms to gain ground. TES needed to modernise the service while managing the connections between job advertisements, customer accounts and its existing sales order system. Building on its previous work with One Beyond, the company sought a cloud-based platform that would improve the experience of publishing vacancies and responding to them.

Our Solution

One Beyond rebuilt the recruitment platform using AWS-hosted services running in Docker containers. We developed a message-based integration layer using MSMQ and RabbitMQ to connect Salesforce accounts, the legacy sales order system and job listing pages, enabling advertisements to be rerouted to the new platform. A Solr-based search application supported job discovery, while a new asset management tool allowed schools to upload and store logos and other materials in AWS. Together, these changes created a more efficient system for managing advertisements and supporting recruitment activity.
