About Therapeutic Frontiers

Therapeutic Frontiers specialises in clinical trials involving asthma and COPD exacerbations, alongside respiratory infection. It provides a human rhinovirus experimental-infection model for studying new medical entities. Its work involves capturing respiratory test results against individual patient records and supplying data to clients. Accurate records, traceability and consistent reporting are central to these activities, making effective laboratory information management an important part of its operations.

The Challenge

Therapeutic Frontiers’ paper-based processes were time-consuming, particularly when managing the detailed records needed for regulatory purposes. The team required a digital system that could capture respiratory test results against each patient, including the precise date and time of testing and the person responsible. Records also needed to follow a defined indexing hierarchy, remain searchable and be retained indefinitely. Once client testing was complete, the information had to be presented in the requested reporting format, creating a need for flexible data exports.

Our Solution

One Beyond developed a bespoke Laboratory Information Management System in a matter of weeks and deployed it securely on AWS with authenticated access. We created simple forms for patient data entry, supported by timestamped test records linked to individual users. Text and filtered search enabled staff to locate stored information, while traceability features helped them establish where, when and by whom tests were performed. The system supported indefinite record retention and exports in client-specific formats, with ongoing support and future business growth considered in its design.
